The Patrón de Embarcaciones de Recreo (PER) is the nautical title that will allow you to steer a recreational motor and sail boat up to a distance of 12 miles from the coast or between islands, and between the Iberian Peninsula and the Balearic Islands if the regulatory practices are done. No experience is required.

+ What type of pleasure craft will I be able to steer with this certificate?

• Nautical motorcycles of any power.
• Motor boats up to 15 meters in length.
• Sailing boats up to 15 meters in length if the corresponding complementary sailing training is completed (1).
• Motorboats of up to 24 meters in length if they are used for the regulated practice of navigation in a voyage regime (2).
• Sailing boats up to 24 meters in length if the corresponding complementary practices of sailing (1) and the regulation of navigation in crossing regime (2) are carried out.

+ Under what circumstances will I be able to sail?

• In relation to nautical motorcycles, within the specific limits of navigation applicable according to their technical characteristics.
• In relation to motorboats, up to a maximum of 12 miles between the coast and a line parallel to the coast at that distance and between islands within the Balearic and Canary archipelago, during daytime or nighttime hours.
• In relation to sail boats, up to a maximum of 12 miles between the coast and a line parallel to the coast at that distance and between islands within the Balearic and Canary archipelago, during day or night hours, in thecase of carrying out the corresponding complementary practices of sailing (1).
• In relation to motor boats, between the Iberian Peninsula and the Balearic Islands, in day or night time, in the case of carrying out the regulatory practice of navigation in crossing regime (2).
• In relation to the sail boats, between the Iberian Peninsula and the Balearic Islands, in day or night schedule, in the case of carrying out the corresponding complementary practices of sailing (1) and the regulation of navigation in crossing regime (2).

+ How is the course structured?

• Theoretical sessions (the time invested will depend on each student) in which the following topics are covered:

1. Nautical nomenclature.
2. Mooring and anchoring elements.
3. Safety at sea.
4. Legislation.
5. Beaconing.
6. International Regulations for Preventing Collisions (RIPA).
7. Maneuvering and navigation.
8. Emergencies at sea.
9. Meteorology.
10. Theory of navigation.
11. Navigation chart.

• Practical navigation and safety sessions of 16 hours in an approved boat where the concepts learned in the theoretical part will be applied to obtain the motor license.
• Theoretical-practical 12-hour short-range radio operator session.
• Complementary practical sessions (1) of sailing of 16 hours in an approved boat if you also want to obtain the sailing license.
• Complementary practical session (2) regulatory sailing session of 24 consecutive hours if you want to obtain the qualification to sail with boats up to 24 meters in length and between the Iberian Peninsula and the Balearic Islands.

+ Information of interest

• Maximum 8 students per course.
• It is necessary to pass the theoretical exam to obtain the qualification.
• All motor and sail practices can be done before or after the theoretical exam.
• Minimum age of 18 years old.
• The student must provide a medical certificate of fitness for boating for the processing of the title.
• Once the theoretical and practical sessions have been completed and the student has passed the exam, he/she will be able to apply for the official certificate/license.
• The official license is valid for 10 years, after which it may be renewed with a new medical certificate.

• 725 € the complete course for the Motor and Sailing Yacht Pattern, which includes the theoretical and practical sessions and didactic material.
• 72,25 € examination fees.
• 80 € the fees for the issuance of the diploma.
• 275 € for the statutory 24-hour practical session of voyage navigation.
